Кто и когда изобрел первую заколку для волос, сказать сложно. Однако есть достоверные сведения, что заколка возникла задолго до нашей эры. Появление шпилек для волос датируется приблизительно 600 годом до н.э..

Africa | A collection of hairpins from Ethiopia | Silver, gold-plated, beads | 20th century | Ethiopian women often wear hair pendants with conical bells to set off their intricately plaited hair. Rancid butter, used chiefly as a cosmetic by the Ethiopians, gives the hair its sheen. Haircombs are worn on special occasions. Finely granulated and often gold-plated, these show the influence of Yemeni Jewish goldsmiths.
